In business, revenue or revenues is income that a company receives from its normal business activities, usually from the sale of goods and services to customers. In many countries, such as the United Kingdom, revenue is referred to as turnover. Some companies receive revenue from interest, dividends or royalties paid to them by other companies. Revenue may refer to business income in general, or it may refer to the amount, in a monetary unit, received during a period of time, as in "Last year, Company X had revenue of $32 million." Profits or net income generally imply total revenue minus total expenses in a given period. In accounting, revenue is often referred to as the "top line" due to its position on the income statement at the very top. This is to be contrasted with the "bottom line" which denotes net income. For non-profit organizations, annual revenue may be referred to as gross receipts. This revenue includes donations from individuals and corporations, support from government agencies, income from activities related to the organization's mission, and income from fundraising activities, membership dues, and financial investments such as stock shares in companies. For government, revenue includes gross proceeds from income taxes on companies and individuals, excise duties, customs duties, other taxes, sales of goods and services, dividends and interest. In general usage, revenue is income received by an organization in the form of cash or cash equivalents. Sales revenue or revenues is income received from selling goods or services over a period of time. Tax revenue is income that a government receives from taxpayers. In more formal usage, revenue is a calculation or estimation of periodic income based on a particular standard accounting practice or the rules established by a government or government agency. Two common accounting methods, cash basis accounting and accrual basis accounting, do not use the same process for measuring revenue. Corporations that offer shares for sale to the public are usually required by law to report revenue based on generally accepted accounting principles or International Financial Reporting Standards. In a double-entry bookkeeping system, revenue accounts are general ledger accounts that are summarized periodically under the heading Revenue or Revenues on an income statement. Revenue account names describe the type of revenue, such as "Repair service revenue", "Rent revenue earned" or "Sales". From Wikipedia under the

Q. I am planning to set up a web site and I am exploring ways to make revenue from my site. Other than search and ads that I place on my site, what other means do I have to make revenue? Is there a resource on the internet where I can check up on revenue making opportunities? Asked by Charles S - Fri Nov 30 13:19:52 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The most important question is; "How do I get the masses to visit my site?" Getting people to your site is as much an issue as what am I going to sell. You're getting ahead of yourself in thinking that everyone will be typing your site into their web browsers. It just isn't the case. There are millions of websites and pages in web-land. I've had two sites up for 4 years and it's still a tough pull to get people to just visit. The best ticket to making money is creativity. Answered by Scott 88 - Fri Nov 30 16:35:11 2007 How does a corp recogonize & pay tax on subscription revenue? Q. Does the company owe tax on all the revenue collected even though those subscriptions haven't been fullfilled? So, assuming a calendar yr, if a customer subscribes in June (and pays upfront for 1 yr sub) does the co report the full revenue & owe tax on the entire amount or on just the 6 months that they've delivered isses. They still owe the subscribers six more months of issues. The co has only produced half of the issues, but the co has all of the customers subscription payments in the bank. How does the IRS recogonize this? Any software/subscription people out there? Asked by Pure_Alpha - Fri Feb 2 14:12:47 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. A company would recognize income as the subscriptions were earned. Subscriptions paid in advance are recorded as deferred revenue which is really a liability to the company. Deferred revenue is moved into realized revenue accounts as the product is delivered. Prepaid subscriptions are and excellent source of cash, actually borrowed money, at no interest. Answered by Dave - Fri Feb 2 14:39:59 2007 Is the amount of actual tax REVENUE more important to a liberal than the percentage taxed?
Q. Because if so, then why not lower taxes for businesses and corporations so that they can turn a higher profit and thus pay MORE in tax revenue? Do liberals just not get that 20% of $1.5 million is more than 25% of $1 million? Asked by Drew Blood - Sun Feb 28 18:39:04 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. According to the liberal viewpoint on economics, economic growth is suppoed to happen slowly. And you are not supposed to have any crashes or recessions. Slow but steady growth with little or no recessions. Sounds great in theory but that is not how it ends up in the real world. In the real world, you have disasters and other such circumstance that creates fear and speculation in the market which in turn raises or lowers prices. Sometimes the market goes up, and sometimes it goes down. You also have govt policy which can either create certainty and confidence in the market or create uncertainty and instability. Investors and businessmen have to constantly stear their money in a direction they think is going to be productive and… [cont.] Answered by Jesus loves Ann Coulter - Sun Feb 28 20:09:56 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "revenue" |
